The Super Duty Metal Cutting Series is the ultimate workhorse of the industry. It’s capable of operating 2 to 3 shifts per day and able to do a wide variety of cutoff work including miters, bevels and compound miter work. These massive 850 pound machines are constructed of cast and ductile iron for a vibration free operation. The series is better than ever with a new, more durable full powder coated finish.

Applications include aluminum cutting, steel cutting, as well as miter cuts, bevel cuts and compound miter cuts. Various other materials such as brass, bronze, plastics and fiberglass can also be cut.
Our metal cutting saws are much more than radial arm saws. When coupled with optional equipment, they are a platform for a wide variety of cutoff work in manual and semi-automatic as well as automatic operation when coupled with a material feeder. All Super Duty, Heavy Duty, and Contractor Duty Series motors are manufactured in our Northern Iowa facility. Producing our own motors allows us to uphold a very high level of quality in our machines. These totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motors are manufactured with cooling ducts that move air through the motor laminations to keep them cool while keeping the internal portion of the motor sealed from dust and contamination. These motors also offer the added benefit of an integrated electro-mechanical brake system, these brake systems continue to operate even when the power drops out. Electronic brake systems, cannot compete with the durability or reliability of our electromechanical brake systems.
Original Saw Company’s Radial Arm Saws are manufactured utilizing high quality heavy cast iron and cast aluminum construction. These high quality American castings provide a very rigid, vibration free cutting platform to perform many different sawing and dado operations. It is because of this construction, we can proudly say our machines are the best in the industry. Many of the machines we produce today will be around for generations.
The metal cutting series comes standard with a manual chain feed assembly. This feature gives the operator better control of the carriage versus pulling the carriage by hand.
The exclusive “door style” guard that allows easier and quicker blade changes. The guard only needs to be opened to change the blade out. This is a very important feature for the ferrous cutting application where frequent blade changes are necessary for optimum cutting performance and safety.
The Metal Cutting Series comes with the standard t-slot aluminum extruded top. This top allows for easy attaching of our aluminum fence (shown), clamping systems, or table surface options, as well as your own clamping jigs or cutting fixtures. These all come mounted to a extruded leveling frame for easy leveling of the entire table assembly through out the life of the machine.
Cutting non- ferrous material such as aluminum, copper, soft brass, ect. Is done very effectively on Original Saw Metal Cutting Series machines. When choosing the proper blade take a look at the wall thickness on your material being cut (typically extruded aluminum). It your wall thickness is under 1/8” you may want to consider a high speed steel blade versus a carbide tipped blade. There is more to deciding than just wall thickness particularly stiffness and shape of the extrusion, if you have a thin wall and a flat area that may allow flex when cutting the wall may chatter during cutting and chip or break the carbide teeth. Our machines coupled with the use of the proper blade will result in very good quality cuts. Carbide tipped Non-ferrous blades of this type would generally use a slightly softer grade of carbide tooth in a C-2 or C-3 carbide to take the impact of cutting this type of material and a triple chip grind as well as a negative 5o degree hook angle. Using this type of blade will reduce or remove the chance of the blade grabbing the material and provide a very smooth cut finish. On extrusions with a thin wall we recommend a high speed steel blade with approximately 250 to 300 teeth. In most non-ferrous cutting applications we recommend a mist coolant system (see accessories page) This coolant system will greatly extend blade life and cut quality. Not using the coolant will allow the blades gullets and teeth to “clog up” with material and require more frequent sharpening.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”Ferrous Application”]Cutting ferrous material (steel) can also be done quickly and effectively on Original Saw metal cutting series machines. Material up to 8 gage can be effectively cut with our High speed steel blades. These blades running at 3400 RPM are considered friction cutting blades and are actually melting the material rather than cutting the material. With this type of cut the advantages are speed over cut quality. The cut is very accurate however there will be a slight burr because of the friction cutting action. Factors that affect the burr size are material thickness and speed of the carriage is able to travel at during the cut as well as type of material.. Mist coolant on these application is prohibited and will make the burr size much larger.[/lvca_panel][/lvca_accordion]
